A little about chalcedony:
It is a type of (microcrystalline) quartz, translucent or single color varieties are classified as chalcedony while others are classified as jasper or agate. Although not mined in this particular region, the name of this stone comes from the Ancient Greek town of Chalcedon in modern day Turkey.
